For exceptional valor and gallantry in action during combat operations against the enemy, Sergeant SGT D. Gardiner is hereby awarded the Silver Star.

With total disregard for their own personal safety, and despite the clear and present danger to themselves, and braving heavy enemy fire, Sergeant SGT D. Gardiner performed their duties with gallant skill, speed and levelheadedness, which greatly contributed to the success of the unit's mission.

Sergeant SGT D. Gardiner's gallantry in action is a shining example of the warrior ethos that are vital to battlefield performance, and reflects great credit upon themselves, the 2nd Ranger Battalion and the United States Army.
